SBTi - science-based climate targets for businesses

More businesses are now setting specific climate targets. At the same time, expectations from investors, customers and authorities are increasing. Through SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative), companies can establish science-based climate targets that are in line with the Paris Agreement and recognized international climate science.

Aider helps companies develop, document and get approved climate targets in line with SBTi - from mapping emissions to submission and follow-up.

What is SBTi?

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi ) is an international framework that helps businesses set climate targets based on scientific methods.

The aim is to ensure that companies' emission reductions contribute to limiting global warming to 1.5°C.

In order to get an SBTi target approved, the company must, among other things:

  • establish climate accounting based on the GHG Protocol
  • set specific emission reduction targets
  • include relevant emissions in the value chain (scope 1, 2 and 3)
  • submit the targets to SBTi for validation

The result is science-based climate targets that provide credibility and clear direction for the company's climate work.

What is FLAG?

FLAG (Forest, Land and Agriculture) is part of SBTi and applies to companies with emissions related to forests, agriculture and land use. The framework sets out requirements for how companies in land-intensive sectors should set climate targets that both reduce emissions from land use and contribute to increased carbon uptake in line with climate science.

More and more companies are choosing to anchor their climate work in SBTi:
