The EU taxonomy: the requirements you need to know for sustainability reporting

The EU taxonomy for sustainable activities is a key part of the EU's new reporting requirements for large companies and financial market participants. In Norway, these regulations are implemented through the Sustainable Finance Act, and apply to the same businesses covered by the EU Sustainability Directive (CSRD).

What does the EU taxonomy mean for your business?

The taxonomy requires companies to report how much of their business is classified as a sustainable activity according to the taxonomy's technical criteria. For an activity to be defined as sustainable, it must:

  • Make a significant contribution to at least one of the six defined environmental objectives

  • Not cause significant harm to the other environmental objectives

  • Comply with minimum social and governance requirements
