Since 1949, Brødrene Alseth AS has carried out contracting projects across Telemark, Vestfold, and the Eastern Norway region. Professional expertise and quality have always been hallmarks of their work. In 2020, the company was ISO-certified for planning and execution of contracting services across all types of terrain and ground conditions. Given the close connection of their work to nature, minimizing environmental impact is essential. The need for a comprehensive climate accounting system, which could also be used in project planning and tender processes, became increasingly clear. The timing was perfect when Aider reached out.
“Aider is best known as a nationwide accounting firm, but financial figures are climate figures. That’s why it’s natural for us to offer a wide range of sustainability services,” says Sjur Langedal, Director at Aider. Together with our partner Morescope, we assist both large and smaller businesses with climate accounting.
Morescope provides a quick estimate of emissions using data from the latest financial statements (transaction data). You can then update it with more precise figures (activity data) from your operations, suppliers, or partners. The result is a fast and straightforward climate accounting report compliant with the GHG Protocol.
“We got to know Aider through their local office in Rjukan. Their approach appealed to us. Aider introduced us to the Morescope climate accounting platform and the opportunities it offered,” says Asbjørn Alseth, CEO of Brødrene Alseth.
In addition to climate accounting, Morescope offers functionality that provides significant value to Brødrene Alseth. In particular, the “avoided emissions” feature is highly valuable in public tenders, where climate and environmental considerations are weighted at a minimum of 30%.
“We have won many tenders by being able to present different solutions and demonstrate which option has the lowest climate footprint. I can’t just guess— the figures I present must be real, based on historical data and recognized methodology,” says Asbjørn Alseth. The investment in Morescope has paid off many times over.
Having control over emissions is an important part of the company’s competitive advantage. With a climate accounting system in place, it becomes easier to implement measures that reduce emissions where it matters most. In Morescope, the company can set targets aligned with the Paris Agreement and Science Based Targets. Equally important, the entire report can be used in sustainability reporting and ISO certification.
