Documented environmental leadership through Miljøfyrtårn certification
An increasing number of businesses recognize the value of working systematically with initiatives that ensure environmentally sustainable operations. This reflects a strong sense of corporate responsibility and demonstrates a genuine commitment to sustainability. For Bergens Tidende, it was important to document its position as an environmental leader through Miljøfyrtårn certification, as well as to demonstrate accountability for its own climate and environmental initiatives.
As a matter of principle, it was important for us to take part in this and to consider environmental impact in areas such as travel, use of office supplies, and other operational purchases, says Anita Kvalheim, Office Manager at Bergens Tidende. The Miljøfyrtårn certification provided the organization with a structured framework for addressing the various ways in which the business impacts the environment.
One environmental initiative that had already been implemented prior to the certification was the transition from fossil fuel vehicles to electric vehicles. We use vehicles daily both in the market and within the editorial team, Kvalheim explains. This is just one of several initiatives that will contribute positively to the company’s climate accounting.
