Seaborn’s needs prior to Emisoft now Aider

Before partnering with Emisoft, Seaborn faced several challenges commonly experienced within the seafood industry:

  • Increased pressure from customers and authorities to document climate impact, particularly across the value chain (Scope 3)
  • Lack of systems and methodologies to calculate emissions in a consistent and credible manner
  • Unstructured data foundation, with information scattered across Excel files, emails, and accounting systems
  • Need for audit ready reporting in line with new requirements such as CSRD and VSME
  • Time consuming manual processes for collecting, structuring, and documenting climate data
  • A desire for a professional advisory partner, not just a system, but someone who understands both sustainability and the industry

The starting point

At a time when sustainability reporting has become a requirement rather than a choice, Seaborn needed both a tool and a partner capable of structuring and simplifying its climate efforts.

In the autumn of 2021, the company took an important step by developing a clear sustainability strategy, with the objective of reducing its own climate footprint and contributing to a more responsible seafood industry. However, moving from ambition to execution required more than good intentions. It required structure, methodology, and professional support.

This is where Emisoft now part of Aider came in as a trusted partner:

We knew we had to measure our climate footprint, but we were facing a steep learning curve. Emisoft was recommended to us as experts in the field, and they quickly helped us get started with the GHG123 software. This was a crucial support for us, especially in the early stages, says Sandra Sæther, Quality and Compliance Manager.

Emisoft has supported Seaborn throughout this journey, and the collaboration has been an important part of their success. Emisoft has not only been a software provider, but also a valuable advisory partner across a range of sustainability related topics. The collaboration has been characterized by mutual trust and effective communication, and Emisoft has consistently been available to respond to all inquiries.

Tools and methodologies for sustainability

The GHG123 software became a cornerstone of Seaborn’s toolkit. Built in accordance with the recognized GHG Protocol, it provided a robust platform for collaboration with experienced environmental advisors who contributed more than just technology. In addition, Excel based reporting was seamlessly integrated with GHG123, making data collection and reporting more efficient than ever.

GHG123 quickly became more than just a software solution. It became a trusted partner for collecting, analyzing, and reporting our emissions data. At the same time, we were able to continue using our familiar Excel reporting, ensuring a smooth and seamless transition.

Results and milestones

Over the past year, Seaborn has developed significant expertise in sustainability reporting and various aspects of climate accounting. The collaboration with Emisoft has led to continuous improvements in their climate reporting.

The result? A substantial improvement in PwC’s climate index, moving from category 5 in 2022 to category 3 in 2023.

Our collaboration with Emisoft has helped us better understand sustainability reporting and improve the quality of our data. It was highly rewarding to see the results reflected in a higher ranking in the climate index.
